REVISITING ZANDMOTOR BEACH

Finally the grey dull rainy weather made space for some blue skies and frosty morning here in the Netherlands. Love seeing the morning sunlight and the warm and cool tones it made me go back to the beach where (already two years ago) I photographed snow buntings. I got some nice photos, but not the perfect one. So time to go back.
This morning was cold! Starting the hike at Zandmotor from the parking lot seeing -2 degrees celsius which was good for the photos and walking on frozen sand is a bit easier, but with the wind it was cold, really cold! Anyway I am not here for a sunny beach vacation so let’s go!
The sun was slowly rising casting long shadows and warm light on the sea with still the cold blue tones of the shadow. It was really a beautiful morning. Together with a fair amount of damp/mist in the air it had a hazy like diffusion filter on some of the photos. Well even better.
Walking on to the beach I wanted to see if there were any shore birds foraging. I only encountered seagulls and weirdly enough that was all I saw that morning. I don’t know where all the birds went, but not where I was. Time to move on and maybe see something else. I walked towards the grassy dunes or small sand bumps. Not sure what to call them, but they are really cool in this landscape and with hazy light made for some cool landscape shots.
Walking back through the shadow cast side of a bigger sand dune I saw something on the beach that I could not really identify, getting closer and closer it seemed to be a seal. A young seal taking a rest I guess. Either really tired of exhausted, I don’t know but it seemed oke and did not really mind me - off course staying a fair bit of distance away not to scare it. It made for some cool photos, which made me happy, never photographed a seal here in the Netherlands. Off course I would love the seal to be in the sun as the light was perfect, but you can’t have it all.
That was also a good ending of my small trip. Packed up and headed home.
