The gradual change from winter to spring - birding in the dunes

Its been a while, photography in winter this time wasn’t really on my mind. Except the one time on the beach when it was really a good frosty morning. The last few days saw some awesome early spring weather with sunshine and high temperatures. So why not go visit the dunes and see what birds there are this time around.

I can be short in this regard, some of the winter guests are still here, some are gone. Same as the summer guest that are coming in these weeks. So we are in a transition phase or starting to be. It felt like I was just 2-4 weeks too early to photograph many birds. Still there were some nice ones.

It started off with some smaller ones, like the more common Tits, Stonechats and Finches. However I did came across a few Common Merganser birds which I Iike. I don’t see them as much as more native species like the Tufted duck. The duck or this specific one in the flock was a real diva. Showing off, splashing around and chasing others. Fun to see.

And with that it was basically it.

All photos shot with the OM-1 and the 300F4 (2.0TC) and 150-400F4.5 pro lens. Click to view larger in a light box and navigate with mouse or arrow keys. Enjoy!
