A few weeks ago when borders where opened and Corona restrictions where slowly lifted I went to a nature park that crosses the Dutch and Belgian border. I went to Kalmthout to photograph birds and see if a new photo hide would give me a new and exciting perspective in bird photography. The hide was surrounded by water, which is not always the case. In this situation there was not only a small pond for the birds, but also a small creek crossing at the other side of the hide. So two different views and compositions.

So was it a exciting experience? Well I can be short, it wasn’t, it rained so much the night before and in the early morning the clouds where still there. As the clock struck 10ish the sun slowly appeared. So apart from the regular birds I did not spot anything noteworthy. Really a shame, but you can’t control nature right?

Still it was a fun and a relaxed morning. Less birds means more time to figure out compositions, clear your head and just enjoy the small birds you do get. So it was a good anti stress morning. As for species there where not many. I saw, a European greenfinch (Groenling - Chloris chloris), a Jay (Gaai - Garrulus glandarius) an Tit (Koolmees - Parus major) a Blackbird (Merel - Turdus merula) and some more.

Again in the end a relaxing morning but hoped for more! Still some good photos, really up close, which without a hide is pretty much impossible to get. Plus a nice short video of a Tit looking for food in the lush green grass! So a small bonus. My favourite would the the Jay, it was just posing for the shots, really cool!

So there you have it! A video and some photos! All shot with the Sony combo! And don’t hesitate to leave a comment or an e-mail. Click to view larger in a light box and navigate with mouse or arrow keys. Enjoy!
