Bird Portrait Photography - A concept in the works
Full screen gallery below
I have this idea, for a while now, it started with the photos on the desktop of the Microsoft surface line. Remember, the animals - owl photographed. To me it was as the birds where portrayed as a humans, a portrait almost. This intrigued me and wanted to try this for myself. So I thought let’s try to capture birds in portraits like humans, i.e. bird portrait photography.
So where to start, because an idea is just an idea and since I do not own a studio anymore, let alone having access to al kind of birds, I needed to do something else. So why not go to the (bird) zoo in my own town? Let’s just try to see if there is something here, a concept, working out how to do this. That said I did my first round of photography, a test run, a few weeks ago and the results are quite interesting for a first trail run.
Actually, I’m quite happy with these results and will start a series. This is something that can evolve to a real cool series. I still need to refine and find the balance to capture these birds perfectly, but starting out with no real expectations and getting these results, to me this is something that will definitely work!
So now for some of the first photos and follow the Series chapter on this website for more to come. All photos below, taken with the Fujifilm X-T3 and the Fujinon 100-400mm. Click to view larger in a light box and navigate with mouse or arrow keys. Enjoy!
