Sunrise at Marken

The former island of Marken situated in the Gouwzee was connect to the main land in 1957 by a dyke. This means that visiting the island is obviously much easier now. Marken is famous for its monumental wooden houses, fishing heretic and the traditional costumes the residents wear.

Early morning in summer, visiting the Dunes

So after the new kid in town, see previous blog, time for an early morning in the dunes and some of the meadows leading up to the dunes. I returned to the Amsterdamse waterleidingduinen, but still want to photograph the wisent in the other part of the dunes here in the Netherlands.

Visiting the Empese and Tondense Heide (with video)

This relatively new nature reserve is restored to it’s natural state to where it was, a flower rich wetland, almost sixty years ago. The restoration was done in the last couple of years where ditches were cut off and water was redirected. This meant that an agricultural land was transformed from grasslands to a more wetlands type of soil.
